John E. Dopyera

John had academic and administrative appointments at Penn State, Pacific Oaks College (Pasdena, CA), and Syracuse University. Primarily, however, before retirement, he did research and evaluation studies and developed training programs in academic settings and as a consultant in his firm, Cumberland Hills Associates, Inc.

John's training as a psychologist included an undergraduate degree from Reed College and a Ph.D, from Syracuse University. His specializations include social psychology, measurement and evaluation and school psychology. He developed various measurement procedures useful in determining the nature of learning encounters within school and other organized program settings. His writings include articles, chapters, and a college textbook, Becoming a Teacher of Young Children,co-authored by wife Margaret.

In his retirement, in addition to continuing writing endeavors, John has demonstrated his skills in designing and constructing buildings. The Dopyera's large retirement home and other associated buildings, constructed in northwestern Pennsylvania, blend well with their forested setting and provide visual access to the natural beauty that surrounds them.
