Margaret is now Professor Emeritus of the School of Education at Syracuse University. She was a faculty member at Syracuse for 25 years from 1967 to 1992. Her responsibilities during these years included serving as chair of the elementary education area, directing the Early Childhood Education Center, coordinating the early childhood teacher education programs and serving as Associate Dean for Academic Programs.

Prior to her service at Syracuse, Margaret was an Assistant, then Associate, Professor at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio and served as a primary teacher at the Antioch Experimental School. Early in her career, she also taught in the public schools of Jamestown, NY and at Pennsylvania State University in the Reading Department.

She and John co-authored the college textbook Becoming a Teacher of Young Children and wrote many other articles and chapters on education topics.
